8 Small Things You Can Do Every Day to Get Smarter

Here are some small things to try every day to get smarter and smarter!

1. Write a diary

Science says that writing down your thoughts is one of the best ways to exercise your brain. Writing puts your cognitive abilities such as logic, creativity, and focus to work. Keep a journal or a diary and pour out your thoughts, achievements, or goals at the end of each day. This is one of best smart habits you can develop.

2. Challenge yourself

How many times have you thought about something you couldn’t do, and realized only later after trying it that you’re actually pretty good at it? It happens all the time, right? To work out your brain and develop new talents, you must also keep challenging yourself to try new things and step out of your comfort zone.

3. Make “smart” friends

Being around smart people promotes healthy competition and exposes you to new ideas, perspectives, and knowledge. It may hurt your self-esteem a tad bit, but you’ll always leave the room motivated to learn and know more.

4. Read, read, read
We can’t express how important this one is! Reading is one of best ways to expand the horizons of your mind and boost imagination. Whether reading non-fiction or fiction is better for the brain, is still a debate. However, the fact that reading, in general, makes you smarter is inarguable.

5. Solve Puzzles

Playing brain-training games is the best mental workout for those brain cells. Try out “smart” games like Scrabble, Sudoku, Chess, Battleship, etc. These days there are so many fun game apps to download and play for free. You can also try out apps like “word of the day” that can help you with earning a top score in standardized tests.

6. Learn a new language

Trying out something new and challenging your brain usually tops the list of ways to get smarter. Learning a new language sums up a lot of these brain-friendly activities, including reading books (for our language class) and gaining knowledge. Furthermore, scientists say that exchanging cultural views is a great way to promote fresh vibes inside your brain and improve your perceptual skills.

7. Try out artistic activities
As we all probably know, drawing, painting, and other artistic activities light up the right side your brain. You don’t have to be an artist to try these out. Simply the act of thinking what to create and using hand-eye coordination nurtures your brain in a unique way, storing your memories and aiding retention. According to scientists, art changes your brain in unimaginable ways and there are many reasons why you should try it every day.

8. Break routines

For time management, it may be desirable to be predictable all the time. But experts say that breaking routines and trying a new approach every once in a while is healthy for your brain. You can try simple things such as making a new breakfast, changing your sleep schedules, or trying out a new way (or place) to work. Keep exploring!
